Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)

Alliance Glass will always supply products that comply with DDA Regulations when possible (typically based on site conditions).

This Regulation mainly comes into affect when supplying commercial entrance doors. Factors that should be considered are:

Clear Openings

Below table extracted from Building Regulations (Approved Document M)

Table 2   Minimum effective clear widths of doors              
Direction and width of approach New buildings (mm) Existing buildings (mm)
Straight-on (without a turn or oblique approach) 800mm 750mm
At right angles to an access route at least 1500mm wide 800mm 750mm
At right angles to an access route at least 1200mm wide 825mm 775mm
External doors to buildings used by the general public 1000mm 775mm


Note:
The above sizes must take into consideration any hardware which protrudes from the door leaf (see below diagram)


Handles

 The handles we use on our entrance doors are typically the 300mm cranked 'D' pull type (shown).

All handles must be a contrast colour to the door leaf.

Other types of handles are available on request.


Automatic Gear Operation

Automatic doors are increasingly common in today's commercial buildings. If required, we typically arrange for Besam gearing to be installed but however, we are happy to design our doors to suit any gearing of your choice
